4 Days in Chongqing
Three days in the city plus one day out of it. This is the first length where a day trip stops being a squeeze and starts being worth it.
Who this itinerary is for
Good fit if
Travellers who want the city properly and one substantial day out
Look elsewhere if
A first visit already cut short by long flights at either end
At a glance
Walking figures are planning estimates derived from the walking difficulty of each stop, not measured distances. Across the whole trip that is roughly 22.6 km.

Day 3
Day trip: Dazu Rock Carvings
Out of the city for most of the day. The carvings are a UNESCO site and the rail connection makes this the easier of the two day trips.
This is a full travelling day out of the city. We do not publish published timetables here because they change with each revision — check the current schedules and build the day around the return leg, which is the part that decides whether the trip works.

Planning notes
Stops are ordered by area first and time of day second, so you are not crossing the city repeatedly. Stairs and level changes still require decisions about the route and the return journey.
Timings are a sequence rather than a schedule. We have not individually verified the opening hours of every stop, so treat the day as an order of events and check anything you have specifically come for.
Chongqing's stairs are the reason this plan is sequenced the way it is. Read the terrain guide for what the difficulty labels mean.

A practical base for a first two- or three-night visit: central sights and restaurants are in the same district. Choose the entrance as carefully as the map pin; the pedestrian core and the river are at different levels.
