Why visit

The confluence is the reason Chongqing exists, and this is the only place you can see both rivers at once with the city rising behind them. The observation deck is the highest public viewpoint in the centre.

Terrain warning

The shopping complex itself is fully level and step-free. The riverfront steps down to the water are not.

What to expect

The observation deck queue is worst in the hour before sunset. Go earlier in the afternoon for the same view with a fraction of the wait.

The wider Jiefangbei area behaves like this: The pedestrian core and riverside are different levels. Ask for the route between the vehicle entrance, reception and your room; straight-line distance can be misleading.

Best time to visit

How long to allow

Between 1 hr and 2 hr, depending on how much you stop. The planner uses 1 hr as a minimum.

How to get there

Nearest metro

Chaotianmen朝天门(Line 1)

The walk from the station to the riverfront involves a long level stretch plus a descent to the water, so budget more time than the map suggests.

Walking the last stretch

The shopping complex itself is fully level and step-free. The riverfront steps down to the water are not.
