Where to Stay in Guanyinqiao
观音桥
The commercial centre of the north bank. Busier with residents than with visitors, and noticeably flatter than the south-bank core.

Best for
- Travellers who have already seen the headline sights
- Eating at local prices rather than tourist prices
- Anyone who would rather not climb steps to reach their hotel
- Families who want flat walking and predictable food
What it costs you
- Very few headline sights are within walking distance
- You will cross the river for Hongya Cave and Jiefangbei
- Less English signage than the core
- It is a shopping district first and a sightseeing district second
Terrain warning
One of the easier districts in Chongqing to walk. The shopping streets are broad and level, and pedestrian crossings are generous.
Getting around, in and out
Metro
A well-connected hub on the north bank, with fewer changes needed than the map suggests for airport-bound travellers. Streets between the station and most hotels are flatter than in the core.
Airport
Closer to Jiangbei Airport than the south-bank districts, which makes it a sensible base for a short trip that begins or ends with a flight.
Walking
One of the easier districts in Chongqing to walk. The shopping streets are broad and level, and pedestrian crossings are generous.
With luggage
Generally straightforward. Most large hotels here have vehicle access at street level.
How it scores
Editorial judgements out of five, kept deliberately coarse. They exist to make trade-offs legible, not to rank areas absolutely. The stay finder weights these against your own priorities.

Jiefangbei
解放碑
A practical base for a first two- or three-night visit: central sights and restaurants are in the same district. Choose the entrance as carefully as the map pin; the pedestrian core and the river are at different levels.

Shapingba & Ciqikou
沙坪坝 · 磁器口
West of the centre, anchored by the old streets of Ciqikou and a large university district. Slower, cheaper, and a different version of Chongqing.
