Chongqing Itineraries

Real sequences, not lists of places. Each itinerary orders stops so you move downhill where the city allows it, stay in one area at a time, and have a fallback for the days the weather turns.

Three days is the length most first-time visitors should book. Two is workable if your arrival and departure days are not usable.

  • Assume your first and last days are partial. This is where most itineraries fail.
  • Every itinerary here lists walking load per day, so you can see before you commit.
  • Each day carries fallback options for when a place is closed or you run out of energy.

By length

Pick your number of days

Each plan is a real sequence with timings, transfers, walking load and a fallback for every day.
  • 1 day · balanced pace

    1 Day in Chongqing

One day, one peninsula, no wasted transfers. Everything here is inside the Yuzhong core so you spend the day walking the city rather than crossing it.

    Walking
6-8 km, with a lot of it vertical
    Day trip
    Not included

Best for: A layover or a single spare day where you want the essential Chongqing and nothing else

    Open the plan
  • 2 days · balanced pace

    2 Days in Chongqing

The shortest trip that does not feel rushed. Day one covers the peninsula on foot; day two uses the river crossings and the south bank to show a different face of the city.

    Walking
    7-9 km per day
    Day trip
    Not included

Best for: A long weekend or a stop between two Chinese cities

  • 3 days · balanced pace

    3 Days in Chongqing

An arrival afternoon and two full sightseeing days from a Jiefangbei base: the central peninsula, the south bank, then Liziba and the western neighbourhoods. Suggested times leave space for meals and transfers; choose fewer stops if you also depart on day three.

    Walking
    6-9 km per day
    Day trip
    Not included

Best for: First-time visitors with an arrival afternoon, two full days and time for stairs

    Open the plan
  • 4 days · balanced pace

    4 Days in Chongqing

Three days in the city plus one day out of it. This is the first length where a day trip stops being a squeeze and starts being worth it.

    Walking
6-10 km on city days, less on the day trip
    Day trip
    Included

Best for: Travellers who want the city properly and one substantial day out

    Open the plan
  • 5 days · relaxed pace

    5 Days in Chongqing

Enough time to stop rushing, take one full day trip and still have a day left for the parts of the city most visitors skip entirely.

    Walking
5-9 km per day, deliberately unhurried
    Day trip
    Included

Best for: Travellers who would rather see eight things properly than fifteen badly

Special case

Arriving on transit visa-free entry

Built for a stopover: lighter days, a departure-day option, and no day trip that could put a flight at risk.
  • 3 days · relaxed pace

    Chongqing on a Transit Stopover

A compact plan for travellers passing through China under transit visa-free entry, built for the reality of jet lag, luggage and a hard departure time.

    Walking
5-7 km per day, deliberately light
    Day trip
    Not included

Best for: A stopover between two other countries where you have two or three nights on the ground

Why these plans are ordered the way they are

Stops are grouped by area first and by time of day second. That is the opposite of how most itineraries are written, and it is deliberate: cross-city transfers cost more here than in a flat city because of the elevation change at both ends.

Where a route runs between two levels, we send you downhill. The plan that starts at Shibati and ends at the river bank is easier than the same plan reversed, even though the stops are identical.
