Useful Apps for Visiting Chongqing
Set up payments, DiDi, navigation and train booking before arriving in Chongqing. Keep Chinese addresses and an offline backup for the airport-to-hotel journey.
Start with Alipay or WeChat Pay, DiDi, a usable map and your saved hotel address.
- Link an eligible card and finish any requested identity checks before departure.
- DiDi offers an English interface; check the version available in your store.
- AMap has English-language guidance. Save the Chinese name and map pin as well as the English name.
- For intercity trains, use Railway 12306 in English and prepare your passport details.
Features and payment eligibility depend on your account, card and app version. Test setup before flying and carry a backup payment method.
Time-sensitive information. Entry rules, opening hours, fares and app features can change. Check the linked operator information for your travel date. Found an update? Email our local team.

A short, useful app list
Alipay / WeChat Pay
These support eligible international cards for merchant payments. Follow the app’s card and identity prompts; acceptance and fees depend on the transaction and issuer. Keep a physical card and some RMB as backup.
DiDi
Use the English interface where available, or the ride-hailing entry in Alipay or WeChat. Confirm the pickup pin, car category and price before requesting a ride. At the airport, follow the app instructions; the taxi rank may be somewhere else.
AMap / Gaode
Check the language setting in your version. Save the Chinese place name and inspect the actual entrance. A route line does not tell you whether the last approach has stairs or a working lift.
Railway 12306
Use the official English booking service for intercity trains. Complete passenger identity setup early and match the document to the passport you will carry.
Translation and messaging
Test your chosen translator on your own phone. Download a Chinese language pack if offered and try it without a connection. Agree a contact channel with your hotel or guide before arrival.
Before you fly
Install and sign in
Use your normal app store, check the publisher and find the language setting. Confirm login works.
Keep your number reachable
Make sure you can receive login or bank verification messages abroad. Ask your carrier about roaming and your data provider about coverage.
Save the first journey
Keep screenshots of the hotel’s Chinese address, vehicle entrance, booking reference, terminal and transport plan.
Test the fallback
Turn off data briefly and check that screenshots and any downloaded language pack remain available. Keep identity-document copies secure; carry the original passport for required checks.
Maps and Chongqing’s levels
Ask your hotel which street level and entrance to use. Follow signed pedestrian routes; do not enter a road tunnel just because a route line points through it.
Our walking labels help compare places. They are broad planning categories, not measured stair counts or a guarantee that lifts are operating.
Common questions
Do I need both payment apps?
Can I book a car in English?
Can a passport photo replace the original for train boarding?
Can translation handle dietary restrictions?
