Two day trips genuinely justify the time out of the city. One is carved history reached by a short rail hop; the other is landscape on a scale that costs you a full travelling day.
Choose Dazu for carved art and history, or Wulong for karst landscapes. Both need a full transport plan.
- Dazu Rock Carvings: most of a day, straightforward rail connection, historically substantial.
- Wulong: a full travelling day from central Chongqing, spectacular, and unforgiving if your schedule is tight.
- Neither is worth attempting in fewer than four days in the city.
