Why combine them

Choose Chongqing for river views, hillside streets and its layered cityscape; leave time in Chengdu for parks, tea houses and the activities you want to book. These are different ways to spend a day, not a rule that one city must come first.

If slopes are tiring, give Chongqing a slower pace and use road transfers between areas. A shorter attraction list is more useful than adding a second city without time to enjoy it.

Plan the complete transfer

  1. Compare the stations

    Inspect Chongqing North / 重庆北, Chongqing West / 重庆西 or Shapingba / 沙坪坝 where offered, and the actual Chengdu arrival station. Do not choose on train duration alone.

  2. Count the two hotel transfers

    Include checkout, the station journey, security, the train, arrival transfer and check-in. We reserve half a day as a relaxed planning allowance.

  3. Check price and release time

    12306 provides the fare and available seats. The normal booking window is 15 days including today; check the station’s ticket release time.

  4. Keep the afternoon flexible

    Choose an easy meal or walk rather than a distant timed attraction. Carry the original passport associated with the booking.

City order and packing

Start where flights and onward connections work best. After a long flight, make the first day light in either city.

Pack comfortable walking shoes, check both forecasts and keep luggage manageable through transfers. Choose layers for your dates rather than assuming one city is always colder.

Train or flight?
For city-to-city travel, start by comparing the train because it avoids airport formalities. A flight can still make sense within a through itinerary. Compare your complete journey.
Which city first?
Either. Let flights, onward travel, bookings and your preferred pace decide.
Can I add a day trip?
Seven or eight nights give more flexibility. Include the full transport and visiting time rather than counting only time at the attraction.
Can I rely on a 62-minute train?
Only if that duration appears for the service you book. The historical fastest example does not describe every train.
