1 Day in Chongqing
One day, one peninsula, no wasted transfers. Everything here is inside the Yuzhong core so you spend the day walking the city rather than crossing it.
Who this itinerary is for
Good fit if
A layover or a single spare day where you want the essential Chongqing and nothing else
Look elsewhere if
Anyone who cannot manage long stair descents, or anyone hoping to also see Ciqikou or a day trip
At a glance
Walking figures are planning estimates derived from the walking difficulty of each stop, not measured distances. Across the whole trip that is roughly 11.8 km.
Day 1
Down through the old city to the river
Start high, end at the river, and let the terrain carry you downhill through the whole day. Every stop is in Yuzhong, so there is no cross-city transfer.
Enter at the top and walk down. Doing this route in reverse turns a pleasant descent into a long climb.

From the previous stop (taxi): The walk back west is long and partly uphill. A short taxi is worth it here.

From the previous stop (walk): Step off the bridge straight into the upper level of the complex.

Planning notes
Stops are ordered by area first and time of day second, so you are not crossing the city repeatedly. Stairs and level changes still require decisions about the route and the return journey.
Timings are a sequence rather than a schedule. We have not individually verified the opening hours of every stop, so treat the day as an order of events and check anything you have specifically come for.
Chongqing's stairs are the reason this plan is sequenced the way it is. Read the terrain guide for what the difficulty labels mean.

A practical base for a first two- or three-night visit: central sights and restaurants are in the same district. Choose the entrance as carefully as the map pin; the pedestrian core and the river are at different levels.
